Artistic Freedom: The Road Ahead
To mark the 20th anniversary of UNESCO’s 2005 Convention, Sweden and Norway organized a side event during UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee in Paris on February 13. The event, “Artistic Freedom: The Road Ahead,” was initiated by the permanent delegations of Norway and Sweden and featured a panel discussion.

New agreement with Sida strengthens artistic freedom
The Swedish Arts Council and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) have signed an agreement for a second programme period between 2024-2027 to strengthen and protect artistic freedom globally. The programme allocates funds to international organisations working to protect and promote artistic freedom.

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) encourages reading and promote literacy by securing access to good literature for First Nations children of Australia.

More Swedish Books for Young Readers
In our new publication we introduce you to exciting children’s and YA authors writing in Swedish today. They are authors who have already found readers in other languages and have the potential to reach even more. The publication is a standalone follow-up to the edition from 2020.
Current grants
The Gothenburg Book Fair Fellowship
In order to increase the knowledge of Swedish literature and the Swedish book market, we arrange a Fellowship program taking place during the Gothenburg Book Fair, September 24–27. In 2025, we are focusing on literary fiction, so we hereby invite publishers and translators working with those genres to apply.
Grants for translators of Swedish literature
This grant promotes international exchange and skill improvement activities among translators of Swedish literature and drama.
