The third application round for grants for translators received a high number of applications, particularly for our residency program in Stockholm. Many of the approved applications focus on participation in workshops and conferences. We also see an increased interest in sample translations for the Japanese book market.

For the third distribution round of grants for international promotion of Swedish Literature and drama in 2024, we approved 13 applications. Extra prominent for this allocation are attendance at book fairs and literary festivals involving Swedish picture books and children’s literature.

The second application round for 2024 Nordic and Non-Nordic translation grants has been decided. In this round, we received 116 applications, of which 91 were approved.

This spring we launched our Swedish-Dutch children’s and Y/A literature exchange program together with our colleagues at the Dutch Foundation for Literature. The Dutch part took place in Amsterdam in the middle of May and the Swedish part in the beginning of June. Seven Swedish publishers and seven Dutch publishers took the chance to dig deep into each other’s literary worlds.

The selection of participants in our fellowship program at the Gothenburg Book Fair, 26–29 September, is now official!

For the second distribution round of our Grants for international promotion of Swedish literature and drama in 2024, we approved 22 applications involving more than 35 Swedish authors. The round was highlighted by several literature festivals inviting Swedish poets to participate.

The second application round for grants to translators of Swedish literature has been finalized. It reflects the translators’ interest in visiting the book fair in Gothenburg, a highlight in the Swedish publishing world, and authors’ presentations of their works. Other activities that we are supporting this time include work-related travels to conferences, festivals, and residencies.

Mudite Treimane and Sofiya Volkovetska awarded the Swedish Academy’s Interpretation Prize for 2024. The prize is awarded for valuable interpretation of Swedish fiction into foreign languages.

Fourteen Nordic picture books, children’s books and youth novels have been nominated for the 2024 Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize.
