Allocation of funding for translations
The second application round for 2024 Nordic and Non-Nordic translation grants has been decided. In this round, we received 116 applications, of which 91 were approved.
Regarding the grant aimed at non-Nordic languages, the most common target languages were Polish, French, German, and Dutch. We are happy to see an increasing interest for translations into Dutch, Korean, and Japanese. The interest from Nordic publishers towards Swedish literature, all genres, remains very active.
Here are some examples of translations that have been granted in this round:
Jobbiga tjejer, by Lisa Bjärbo, Johanna Lindbäck and Sara Olsson, young adults, will be translated into Dutch by Lammie Post- Oostenbrink, Ploegsma.
Comedy Queen, by Jenny Jägerfeld, children’s fiction, will be translated into Japanese by Miho Hellén-Halme, Iwanami Shoten Publishers.
Morsan är haffad, by Daniel Sjölin, children’s picturebook, will be translated into Korean by Kyonshik Shin, Jiyangsa.
