Strong interest in Swedish picture books

The first application round for 2024 Nordic and Non-Nordic translation grants has been decided. In this round, we received 140 applications, of which 107 were approved.

We are pleased to observe a wide variety of genres and authorship, and the significant interest in children’s picture books remains. Regarding the grant aimed at non-Nordic languages, the most common target languages were German, French, English, Italian, and Polish.

Here are some examples of translations that have been granted in this round:

The picture book Min! by Charlotte Ramel and Klara Persson will be translated into German by Friederike Buchinger, Carl Hansen Verlag.

Allt blir bra, a fiction book by Carolina Setterwall, will be translated into Spanish by Claudia Conde Fias, Editorial Planeta.

När ingen lyssnar by Diamant Salihu, non-fiction, will be translated into English by Jan Salomonsson, Polity Press.

I slutet av regnbågen, a graphic novel for young adults by Bitte Andersson, will be translated into Korean by Yu Jin Lee, Studiojujube (Jujube Books).
