2026 Grants for the International Promotion of Swedish Literature and Drama
In the second round, grants have been awarded to 31 projects featuring a diverse range of literary events. Many of these events provide opportunities to build long-term networks between publishers, festivals, translators, bookshops, libraries, schools, and cultural institutions, which can lead to future publishing opportunities and increased capacity for translation.
Below is a selection of projects from around the world that we are happy to support:
Macondo Book Society in Nairobi, Kenya has been granted support for inviting author and illustrator Maria Frölich and author Emily Joof. In connection with the Macondo Literary Festival and as part of the children’s programme, they will participate in a masterclass with Kenyan children's book authors and illustrators and hold the Africa Children’s Literature Forum.
The Swedish Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia has been awarded a grant to invite author Åsa Lind to give a public reading of The Sand Wolf (Sandvargen) and have a dialogue session with Bolivian authors of children’s literature. Through the event, they aim to increase access to Swedish storytelling and awareness of Swedish children’s literature.
Lantana Publishing in the United Kingdom has received support to invite author Uje Brandelius and illustrator Clara Dackenberg. The Playdate (Hemma hos Harald Henriksson), translated by Nichola Smalley, is shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal for Illustration. Brandelius and Dackenberg will participate in the awards ceremony and pre-event engagements.
