Support for literary events and activities

In the third funding round of 2026, grants have been awarded to 20 projects promoting Swedish literature and drama across a wide geographical area, from Australia, Japan and Argentina to countries throughout Europe. We are pleased to see that our initiatives focusing on poetry and exchanges with the Republic of Korea have resulted in new projects.

Two wrens in the Republic of Korea has been awarded funding for the twelve-part lecture series, Swedish Picturebooks in Depth: A Multi-Part Lecture Series. The rich history, aesthetic characteristics, philosophical depth and key creators of Swedish children's literature will be introduced to diverse audiences nationwide in academic, regional and public spaces. The series draws on the insights and international networks established during the Swedish Guest of Honour programme at the 4th Jeonju International Picture Book Fair in 2025.

Five authors and illustrators from Sweden will participate in the international literature festival Children's Book Island, arranged in Lithuania by Mokyklu tobulinimo centras (Centre for School Development). The festival consists of a three-day Creator Island event for creators, publishers and other professionals in the field of children's and youth literature. At the weekend, the organisers arrange a public festival for children, teenagers and their families, Children's Book Island. The festival is co-organised with an international partner each year. This year, the partner is the Litteralund literature festival from the city of Lund, Sweden.

The Swedish poet Marie Silkeberg was invited to participate in the 9th Patras World Poetry Festival in Greece in September 2026. This year's festival brought together poets from Greece and 25 other countries, alongside translators, academics, publishers and cultural professionals. Under the theme Revolution Begins with Words, the festival explored poetry as a catalyst for dialogue, cultural exchange and social reflection.

The author Ulf Eriksson is invited to XIV International Festival VaPoesía Argentina. VaPoesía Argentina invites local and international artists to participate in literary lectures and workshops in areas characterised by social vulnerability, on an equal footing with all other participants.

Purinsen Translations receives funding for Nordic Book Festa 2026. The festival in Tokyo, Japan, aims to increase interest in Nordic literature in Japan and strengthen links between translators, publishers and readers. The two-day event will feature seminars and book sales showcasing literature from all five Nordic countries.
